Government announced a R20 billion relief package for municipalities in response to the covid-19 crisis. Part of the funds are supposed to ensure communities have access to clean drinking water during this period.
But despite the billions announced by the state, accessing water remains a challenge especially for rural communities.
In Malanga, a village in the Collins Chabane Local Municipality collecting water remains a task that takes up a large part of time for residents. They also spend money to pay for transportation of their water back home.
