THE UN General Assembly declared 3 June every year to be celebrated as World Bicycle Day.

World Bicycle Day is marked on this day every year to recognise bicycling as a way to get a sustainable form of traveling that also ensures one’s physical well being.

The day celebrates the tradition of cycling and its significant role in keeping our health fit. Cycling is a multidimensional exercise with numerous health benefits.

World Bicycle Day focuses on drawing everyone’s attention to the benefits of using the bicycle as a simple, clean, affordable, and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation. The bicycle helps in contributing to a cleaner environment while making education, health care, and other social services more accessible to the most vulnerable populations.

To many, especially in rural Africa the bicycle remains a prized possession that serves as a valuable mode of transport.
